HALT!

A few days ago a friend posted on Facebook: "When are you weakest? Satan never plays fair. He always attacks when you are down. Just think of the acronym HALT, and be on guard whenever you are Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired."

Wow. So true.

It reminded me of a confession a friend made to her husband and later shared with our Sunday School class....

She was having a very hard time dealing with life. Her husband was in the Navy and deployed a lot. She did not sign up to be a single parent. This was not the life she wanted. To ease her loneliness, she searched and surfed the Internet. One day she came across an old friend from high school - and old male friend. As days went by she and he began to exchange emails and talk more and more.

It came to the point that she felt led to leave her husband and kids....she would be so much happier with this old friend - he wouldn't leave her for months on end to take care of two small children. He would be home. He would truly love her.

Before she could tear her family apart, something stopped her. She just couldn't stop that nagging feeling in her heart that maybe she was suppose to stay. Finally, she confessed all to her husband. And its his response that blow me away. He told her, "You are being deceived by satan."

Wow. That truly sent me reeling. I knew if I ever confessed an on-line relationship to Drew he would indeed say something about satan, but it would be more along the lines of how I could just go live with the devil!

But this husband didn't tell her that. He understood what I so frequently forget: We are at war and the enemy will attack because he wants to destroy anything that brings God glory.

The H.A.L.T. post reminded me once again: we are at war. The enemy wants to tear apart your family and your life. We need to be prepared. We need to spend time with the Father -for in Him we will find protection from the enemy.

Very good post! Our Sunday School lessons have been on spiritual warfare recently, and you are so right that Satan wants to destroy us, but it is comforting to remember that greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world!

p.s. on a very different topic now....I am sorry I haven't sent any coupons lately, we were very busy through Thanksgiving and Christmas, please forgive me, I'll try to send more soon! :)

Wow. What a potent message. Need to remember that. And may Almighty God bless a faithful husband who speaks truth, forgives quickly, and unconditionally loves his wife. I hope they are growing together again!

I was deeply affected by this acronym because I know that those 4 situations are major factors in how I will respond to whatever is going on around me... and it shouldn't be so. When I get "testy" and "snippy", I have to stop and think: Am I hungry? This is usually the case, because I have to eat at a certain time or else I start to shake and get sick, therefore, get testy and snippy. (actually, I can get quite ugly...just ask my family!) But, when reading that there were those 3 other factors, besides hunger, that could be causing my reactions as well, it made me stop and think how true it is, and I will be using the H.A.L.T. system each time now. :)
