"Lovely Bones"...Not So Lovely

A friend offered to switch books with me. She borrowed my "Blind Side" while I got her "Lovely Bones". I had briefly seen the trailors for the movie and thought it would be good to read the book then see the movie.

So glad I borrowed the book and had yet put any money down on the movie.

What a depressing book.

Yes, I knew in the story a young girl was raped and murdered. But from the movie trailor I though the story was of how she as a ghost helped her family find her killer.

No. Not at all. It's basically about this girl being a ghost in a heaven that's no where near what I believe heaven to be.

You have been warned. Stay away. Far away.

Thanks for coming by my blog!

I read The Lovely Bones a few years ago and really loved it.

My sister was raped and murdered 25 years ago - so for me, reading from the victim's perspective was cathartic. Gave me peace of mind.

In fact, I passed the book along to my mom - when I told a co-worker that I did so - she squealed in disbelief!!! How could I give that book to a woman whose own daughter was murdered?!?!?!

I told mom that it might be disturbing - and to put it down the second it did. Mom liked it - got the same cathartic feeling from it that I did. Like communing with my sister after all these years.

Guess it's all about perspective.

Oh and I agree... the heaven in the book is nothing like I expect/hope/pray heaven to be.
