For whatever reason He sees fit, the Lord has returned the little girl to her family. After having no brain activity at the hospital, she is now sitting up and responding to questions. She even pulled out her IV at one point. Her father is to be back on Guam sometime tonight (Sunday night).
Last night I received a phone call from a friend letting me know the little girl was in Melissa's class last year. Drew and I sat down with Melissa to tell her - she took it well. Of course, by the time we told her we were able to tell her the friend was much better and seemed to making a full recovery. We knew there would be talk at church today and of course, at school tomorrow.
But we also took the opportunity to once again explain to all of our children the importance of the "buddy system" and this is why I'm always asking them to stay together - not just when we are around water, but anywhere - accident happen all the time.
I'm sure there will be changes made at the pool with the lifeguards as well as the policies for parties. As there should be! The first week we were here I had to pull Benjamin out of the pool when he got too far from the wall. He ended up throw-up (what seemed to me) a lot of water - and never once did a lifeguard notice. A few days later I saw another mother jump in the pool still with the shorts on with cell phone in her pocket to pull her child out. At least the lifeguards noticed that.
Please, continue to pray for a full recovery and for the family. Also, please, pray the the other children at the party that witness this. Several are having a very hard time processing all that they saw Friday afternoon.
